Qld Interesting Tunnels

Legacy Way (formally Brisbane Airport Link Road) and Busway Tunnels, Brisbane, QLD
The infrastructure for this project was design by UGL Infrastructure NSW, Engineering office locate in Pymble (Sydney NSW) for the Brisbane Airport Link Road (now Legacy Way) and Busway Road Tunnel projects fire protection system. Sometimes known as NCBT (Norther City Bypass Tunnels). Co-ordination of the fire system mechanical-Fire Alarm & Detection System interfacing, and co-ordination with all other trades (namely Electrical, Lighting, Ventilation, Civil, and various fit-out services was key to the success of this tunnel design. We had approx. 3,500 mechanical drawings, multiple specifications, design reports, full hydraulic calculations, pipe fabrication sheets for all deluge zones & fire main piping fabrication sheets + BOMs (bill of materials), fire pump and fire water tank specifications, operations and maintenance manuals, ITPs, ITRs, commissioning documentation, covering the entire fire protection system for these tunnels. The project has approx. 600 deluge valve zones in the main tunnel & 120 deluge zones in the Busway tunnel.

NCBT Construction view
NCBT construction view prior to the concrete floor being installed. The flexible canvas duct at high level supplies fresh to the work face, and blows all diesel fumes from the trucks / machines out of the tunnel keeping the air with the construction fresh and breathable.
NCBT wall lining mould
NCBT wall lining mold, where the concrete is pumped into the space above the mold, creating a smooth internal surface of the finished tunnel
NCBT Driver Persepective
NCBT drivers perspective, if you look closeley you can see some of the deluge piping on the roof
NCBT mobile services scaffolding
NCBT mobile services scaffolding, this was a new innovation, so that all the trades could share time on the scaffolding and install all the infrastructure elements as this device moves along the tunnel length
