Our mission is to provide a professional fire protection design service using industry best practices, latest design innovations, utilizing regulatory standards & codes, both Australian, NFPA & Factory Mutual. Providing our clients with the most effective, efficient and design compliant system to the project specification and salutatory codes.We would like to introduce our principle designer Mr. Darryl Knapp (photo adjacent)DKnapp Fire Design Pty Ltd has been established since October 2006, and the principle designer has over 35+ years experience in the fire protection industry.All fire protection design drawings are compiled in house utilizing the latest AutoCAD software and compliant to the requirements of the Building Code of Australia and Australian Standards, or to applicable international codes & standards.We also offer a vast experience in fire protection construction methodologies & strategies, using the latest fabrication techniques, fire protection system sprinkler heads, valves, fittings & pipe support systems.Our professional fire protection design service provides quality, performance, adherence to project specifications and site specific requirements, on time and on budget.We specialize in road & rail tunnel fire protection system designs in Australia & New Zealand, and have completed some 14 tunnels todate (see our project list page for details).We have the capabilities to carry out the following key roles for our clients,
- Fire Protection System design for fire sprinkler system, water spray, deluge fire protection, special hazards, foam fire sprinkler & deluge, fire hydrant, fire hose reel, water spray monitors, fire extinguishers, fire detection & gaseous fire suppression systems.
- Consultancy for fire protection system design, tender drawings, project specifications documentation, proposed project budgets, tender documentation & contractors tender analysis & recommendations.
- Fire Protection System audits and reports (PDF format).
- Design & Drafting of Fire Protection System design drawings & as built drawings, using the latest AutoCAD software in house.
- Pipe fabrication/spool sheets (in PDF format).
- Bill of Materials & recommended suppliers for the proposed fire protection system equipment (in PDF format).
- Operation & Maintenance Manual documentation (in MS Word or PDF format).
- Full color printing up to A0 size sheets at completive rates.
- Current full AutoCAD software for design / drafting facilities.
- All design drawings compliant to AS1100 requirements & DKFD standard details.
- Adoption of clients drafting procedures, documentation and standard details if required.
- Scanning of documents (color or black) up to A3 size.
- Full hydraulic calculations using Hyena, plan & schematic node drawings as required by AS2118, supplied in PDF format ready for submission to the client approving authority
DKnapp Fire Design carries current insurances including professional indemnity. Who has been in the industry for 35+ years, filling a variety of roles, gaining experience in all aspects of the industry. During this time Darryl has worked on a variety of projects covering the majority of fire protection systems available. Below is an overview of Darryl's experience, for more detailed information we can supply Darryl's Curriculum Vitae (CV).Darryl started out with Wormald Fire Systems (now Tyco) in the drawing office, promoted through various positions before moving onto B & E Fire Protection where he was realized as a major asset, and as such was made responsible for the day to day running of the business as the companies manager.Darryl then moved onto Fire Fighting Enterprises filling various roles from Sales, Marketing, Contract Manager, Design manager but still maintaining a key role in the day-to-day issues whether they be design or management issues.Then as a director & part owner of DesignFire his proven ability in both design and sales came to the fore, securing many large design projects some of which include M5 Tunnel Sydney, Cross City Underground Tunnel Sydney, Coles & Action Supermarkets WA, BP Kwinana Refinery Deluge, Yetagun Gas production platform & New Metro Rail Tunnel Perth WA among many others.Then Darryl took time to setup & manage a very successful mechanical servicing & repair business (Auto Masters Midland Franchise in WA) for his son. Darryl still performs a major role in this business, helping his son in the day to day running as a manager & father, maintaining the books with his daugther Gemma, with a staff of 4 mechanics/technicians, manager, and book keeper.As the director & design engineer of DKnapp Fire Design, Darryl is involved with the detailed engineering and day to day issues plus running of the business. Darryl's goal is to maintain quality and accuracy of the design, to the respective Standards and Project Specifications, maintaining always the focus on the job to produce the desired quality product so the project can be completed on time and on budget.DKnapp Fire Design has a vast experience in Fire Protection System design & engineering of road and rail tunnels. Located in Perth Western Australia, we can carry out fire protection designs for clients in any location / state / country, this can be done easily by having the relevant construction drawings / specifications / clients drafting procedures, sent via the clients or our FTP (i.e. Dropbox) site, design completed in house by DKFD, and then returned to the client for approvals via emails or the FTP site. The final document transfer methodology to be sorted out once and order has been placed for a specific job.
